The Karnali Yaks, a franchise team in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), unveiled their official jersey in a program held in Kathmandu on Friday. The event was attended by former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal and Nepali Congress leader Purna Bahadur Khadka, marquee player Sompal Kami, head coach and team director Gyanendra Malla, and team ambassador Swastima Khadka.
The jersey's design incorporates blue, symbolizing the Himalayan region, Rara Lake, and Shey Phoksundo Lake, as well as a yak emblem representing Karnali. The blue jersey is accentuated with yellow highlights. At the event, Sompal Kami was presented with his number 10 jersey, symbolizing his key role in the team.
Sompal expressed his excitement, stating that playing at this level had been a long-standing dream, and he was pleased to see it coming to fruition. He described the Karnali Yaks as a well-balanced team and praised former national team captain Gyanendra Malla, who will be coaching them. Sompal added that the league offers a platform for emerging players, and he is eager to showcase his skills alongside notable players like Gyanendra Malla and Dev Khanal.
Leader Purna Bahadur Khadka reflected on the growth of cricket in Nepal, recalling his involvement in an international tournament 26 years ago and expressing his optimism for the sport's future in Nepal. He offered his best wishes for Karnali Yaks' success in the NPL.
