Kathmandu Gurkhas, a franchise team in the Nepal Premier League (NPL), has signed English leg-spinner Nathan Sowter for the upcoming season. Sowter, known for his economical bowling in competitions like the T20 Blast, is expected to strengthen the team's bowling attack. Team CEO Sandesh Katwal expressed enthusiasm about Sowter's addition, highlighting his experience and skills as valuable assets. Sowter also shared his excitement about joining Kathmandu Gurkhas and performing in front of Nepali fans.
Born in Australia, the 32-year-old Sowter began his career with New South Wales' U-23 team before moving to England. He has participated in various leagues, including The Hundred, International League T20, Vitality Blast, and the Caribbean Premier League, amassing 154 wickets in 143 T20 matches with an economy rate around 7.5.
Sowter is the fifth international player signed by Kathmandu Gurkhas, joining England's Stephen Eskinazi and Dan Douthwaite, the Netherlands' Michael Levitt, and Namibia's Gerhard Erasmus. The team's roster also features marquee player Karan KC, along with Bhim Sharki, Shahab Alam, Rashid Khan, Dipesh Kandel, Krishna Karki, Sumit Maharjan, Shankar Rana, Raju Rijal, Pratik Shrestha, and Vivek KC.
The NPL season is set to commence on November 30, 2024, in Kathmandu.
